“brossura | manual of pirate languages” is a bilingual (English/Greek) quarterly journal, coedited by Dimitra Ioannou and Yiannis I. Andronikidis.

“brossura” appropriates the format and columns of the newspaper to cast a critical eye on social, political, and financial conditions, and produce new narratives for the now. It features, among others, feminist essays, classified ads, contemporary experimental poetry, and experimental reviews. Pirate languages refer to the languages that “brossura” loves, idiosyncratic languages that reject literary conventions. To stitch together (brocher) our pirate languages, future issues will also host guest editors.

“The Brossurists were Stitchers. Every time they received a bundle of default texts, they would get their irony needles. The Stitchers used to be Apprentices. They were introduced to the métier by experienced provocateurs, meticulous workers of words, sounds, and meanings. They learned how to get their teeth into a text, how to turn their teeth into hooks and needles, and practiced the art of excision. brossura #1 features poetry by Erica Scourti, Stylianos Benetos (aka Oýto Ȧrognos), and Yiannis I. Andronikidis (EN); works by Anne Boyer (Questions For Poets), and Trace Peterson translated into Greek; poetry and classified ads by Sofia Bempeza, a feminist review by Vivi Papanikola, poetry by The Closet Clown and the porno-poetesses, and a column about zodiac signs by The Insolent Lotus (GK).
